I'm what they call a BYU Baby. I spent the first two years of my life in my birth city of Provo, Utah while my parents finished school.
"The plan" had been to go back to Provo for college. I'm here in Rexburg instead. A high school classmate of mine recently pointed out that a lot of the things I've mentioned on this blog so far are the same as he's seen in Provo, "except usually it's better cuz we're at least somewhat near civilization."
I've been racking my brain for a solid comeback for a while. At first I was going to just say something along the lines of "well the point of this blog is to not make comparisons, so let's not go there."
But that is the coward's way out. The point of this blog is to not make comparisons with California. Yet I still didn't have a good way to describe how much BETTER Rexburg is than Provo.
Then yesterday in my Doctrine & Covenants class, we talked for a while about Zion communities as part of our lesson on the Law of Consecration. And it hit me. We should be building Zion wherever we are. What better place than at BYU-Idaho and in Rexburg? It is insulated from the outside world, and that might make it a little easier for us crazy college kids.
Not to say that the same thing isn't happening at BYU and in Provo. There's no doubt in my mind that it is. But this is where I'm needed. So Rexburg isn't any better or worse than Provo--it's just better for me.
GOOD point and thought!!!!!!!! Love you!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood point. Also, I have to say, having been to both schools, I prefer BYUI 1000 times over BYU Provo. I adore small town, closed at 2 on Saturday til Monday at 8, freezing cold, slush in the spring Rexburg.
ReplyDeleteNo, Rexburg is better BECAUSE of you!
